CONGOLESE BANTU LUBA "MIKISI MIHASI" AMULET. Two items: (1) a patinated figurine of a seated money (on the right) and (2) a Congolese Luba Amulet, specifically a "mikisi mihasi". These amulets originate from the Luba people, a Bantu ethno-linguistic group residing primarily in the south-central region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Luba amulets, like the "mikisi mihasi" shown, served a significant role in Luba religious and cultural practices. They were sometimes made in pairs and served to evoke the memory of twinned ancestral spirits. They are also associated with powerful female figures in Luba religious thought, alluding to the original matrilineal ancestry of the Luba people. - Congolese amulet: height: 5.75 inches (including base). Estimate $150-200
